"Enter into children's play, and you will find the place where their minds, hearts, and souls meet." - Virginia Axline

Children & Adolescents Psychotherapy

It may be that a child or a young person experienced a challenging start in life, or they are facing difficulties at home or school.

Sometimes, children and young people find it hard to express their feelings and may exhibit challenging behaviours as a result. If their behaviour has changed it might be a communication that something is not right, and they may be having trouble regulating their emotions in a healthy way. This can manifest as aggression, withdrawal, anxiety, or, in some cases, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. They might feel overwhelmed and find it hard to make sense of what’s happening to them.

If your child has diagnosis, for example autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), they may benefit from a safe space where they can explore their struggles and understand what the diagnosis means for them.

It is understandable that, as a parent or carer, you may feel unsure about how to best support your child. Seeking external help and guidance can be an important step. Remember, taking your child to therapy doesn’t imply that something is wrong with them; rather, it indicates that both you and your child need a safe environment to reflect on your experiences and challenges.

I employ a variety of approaches to help children and young people express themselves in a safe and non-judgemental space. My training has equipped me to utilize a wide array of techniques, from traditional talking therapy to play and arts-based methods. I provide a diverse selection of media, such as sand, paints, drawing materials, clay, storytelling, music, puppets, movement activities, and writing, to facilitate this process.

What to expect:

  • Please send your inquiry via website and I will try to respond within 24 hours on working days.

  • I will contact you to arrange a complimentary 15-20 min phone/video call to discuss your concerns. This also will be a good time for you to ask some questions and for me to explain how I work.

  • If you are a parent inquiring about therapy for your child, following our first conversation, we will schedule a time to talk about your child's history and development, your family's interactions, and how your child gets along with others. This will help me get a fuller picture of your child's strengths, difficulties, and specific therapeutic needs they might have. If you choose to move forward with me, I will send over a therapy contract for you to review and sign.

  • I will then ask you and your child to come together to the following session, aiming to make the start of therapy as comfortable as possible. Once we've had 6 assessment meetings, I will share with you the initial therapeutic plan. Following that, I will work one-on-one with your child each week. The length of the therapeutic process depends on your child’s needs.

  • I will be checking in with you regularly throughout the process, usually about twice a term.

  • The sessions are 50 min long, always on the same day and at the same time.
